OLED-96-PROP Contest Project Submittal Rules

 1. Description: The µOLED-96-PROP currently includes an object for drawing primitives (dots, lines, circles, etc.) however it does not currently support images read from the micro-SD Card interface. The object of this contest is to develop an object that allows images stored on a micro-SD Card from a PC to be displayed on the µOLED-96-PROP display via serial command. The serial commands should be formatted similar to those used by the µOLED-128-GMD1 to essentially make the µOLED-96-PROP function similar to the µOLED-128-GMD1 and include the primitive functions from the current object code available on our website product page.

2. Eligibility: Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Employees of Parallax are not eligible to enter the contest. International applicants are encouraged to submit their projects. Parallax disclaims any responsibility associated with your country's rules or conditions pertaining to entering contests, should they apply. If you are a winner in the contest and choose to receive Parallax product as your prize, you will be responsible for shipping charges and import taxes should they apply.

3. Submitting a Project: All project submittals must be made by e-mail only to csavage@parallax.com by April 30th, 2008 (12:00 AM, Pacific Standard Time). The subject line should read, “Contest Entry”. No hard copies will be accepted. Specifically, this is what we require for submitting a project:

  • Source Code - Well-formatted and documented code is required so the judges may develop a reasonable understanding of the functionality. It is recommended to save your project using the Propeller Tool Archive feature. This will ensure that all necessary files are included in one archive file. The judges may request additional information for clarification of specific project details.
4. Judging: The following judges will assess the submittals:
  • Chris Savage, Tech Support at Parallax, Inc.
  • Paul Baker, Applications Engineer at Parallax, Inc.
5. Criteria: Projects will be judged according to the following factors:
  • COMPATIBILITY -  How closely the code makes the device simulate the functions of the µOLED-128-GMD1, specifically using serial commands to display text, primitives and images using the same or similar command structure of the µOLED-128-GMD1 and being able to read the image data from a PC formatted micro-SD Card.
  • FORMATTING - How well the code is formatted and documented. No additional documentation should be required to make use of the object. Please see existing objects from the Propeller Tool Library for examples of code formatting and documentation.
  • LIBRARY USE - Making use of existing supporting objects from the Propeller Library and Object Exchange is encouraged.
  • SUPPORTED MEDIA FORMATS - Supporting multiple formats of images and/or animations. More is better.
6. Legal Considerations: All objects submitted for this contest are provided under the MIT License (what the Free Software Foundation calls the X11 License). This license supersedes any license which may be stated by the individual author and any other statements of licensing made by Parallax. Submission of objects to and downloading of objects from the Parallax website or Object Exchange constitutes the understanding of the MIT License and acceptance of its terms and use. The license template is presented below and should be included in all newly submitted and revised objects. We recommend placing the copyright line at the top of the source code followed by the statement “See end of file for terms of use.” Then place the remaining license text at the end of the file. We recommend this to reduce clutter at the beginning of the file. All applicants grant Parallax non-exclusive web and print publication rights, whether they are selected as a winner or non-winning entrant. Parallax will post all Propeller Contest projects in entirety on our web site. Selected applications may also be published in print in our catalogs or books. By entering, applicants agree to release and hold harmless Parallax, Inc and any associates from any and all liability.
